you cannot blaspheme a deity that does not exist.

One does not necessarily have to be a believer to blaspheme. The act itself is an expression of disdain at a concept that is ridiculous, expecially in countries where laws exist to prohibit such. Here’s a definition lifted from Wikipedia.
“Blasphemy is the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence for a religious deity, irreverence towards religious or holy persons or things, or toward something considered sacred or inviolable”
So the act is not necessarily directed at a god or religion, but at the ideology or persons subscribing to that ideology.
And I do believe that god exists… in your mind, but apart from that, there is no proof of a physical existence.
