The Sound Of Science

This video is apparently being tweeted about and posted on various blogs, and because it’s educational, yet amusing, it won’t hurt to post it here too.

0:02Hello Darwin my old friend0:06I’ve come to read from you again0:09You comfort me when I grow weary0:13Of people saying “it’s just a theory”0:18Because a theory is a system of abstractions in our finite minds0:24Of laws behind0:26The things we find with science.0:31And on the Internet I saw0:35A billion people, maybe more0:39People clinging to old delusions0:42People jumping to conclusions0:47People holding superstitions that are obviously quite absurd0:52Who’d never heard0:55A single word of science.1:00How do you think a doctor knows1:03How a disease like cancer grows?1:07How did we learn how we might treat it?1:11How do you think one day we might beat it?1:16It won’t be by taking sugar pills or standing on one leg for hours1:21While eating flowers:1:24But through the powers of science.1:29If you have answers and you’re sure1:33They’re better than what came before1:36Make your hypothesis and test it1:41Take the results that you’ve collected1:45Then you write them in a paper and submit it for a peer review1:51That’s what we do1:54To check it’s truly science.1:59And the people stood and prayed2:02They said “our faith cannot be swayed”:2:06They have their views and they won’t move them2:10They have their truths and they won’t prove them2:14They’ll take the words of the prophets over fossils that were really found2:20Beneath the ground2:23They don’t like the sound of science.2:33(With apologies to Simon and Garfunkel)
