Hi Elle,

Thanks for the appreciation. Unfortunately no such luck; I am just a rank amateur and have just an entry level Nikon DSLR. Maybe some day in the future when I can afford something more elaborate....but first, I need to learn much much more.

Since you are the second person who has asked for more pics, I am going to get off my lazy butt and post a few I captured on a recent road trip to Cape Town, South Africa - one of the most beautiful places in the country.

Let me know what you think...

Hi Aloysha,

You're pretty much on the mark. I actually did a retake on my first interpretation. Check out my latest interpretation Viva la Vida: A second take on the interpretation of the lyrics

The song is more lament between belief and unbelief. And you forget that much of the song is about Jesus, I appreciate your reading but I find some parts of it to be inaccurate.

"It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in.
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People could not believe what I’d become"

He's claiming that Jesus was take over by the wicked and wild, by violent armies, and at the point of a blade.

It's this picture of Jesus, akin to the violent and revolutionary supposed Messiah that he in life time stood in contrast to, that he now also became at the hands of the wicked and wild wind.

The song laments back and forth for an original picture of Christ of Jerusalem bells are ringing, to that of the transformed Christ of the Roman Calvary.

"I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word"

A reference to: "What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?"

"Now in the morning I sweep alone"

Now marginalized.

In his hey day:

"I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy’s eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing:
“Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!”"

A reference to the fear Jesus would strike in the pharisees, and those in power, and the poor and oppressed crowds: "Long live the king"

The song is a lament of the loss of that Beauty of Jerusalem bells, that exalted king, the Original Jesus, replaced by that of the Jesus of the Roman Calvary.

It's not anti-christian, but rather song saddened by what its become.

Hi Febe,

Richard Dawkins', in his latest book "The Greatest Show On Earth," provides evidence for how "actual observation or authetic testimony can be horribly fallable." He references psychological experiments such as the one conducted by Professor Daniel J. Simons at the University of Illinois. You can Google it (or follow the link for the details about visual cognition and human performance), but basically it shows how our much-vaunted powers of observation can be very deceiving. There have been many othe such experiments which confirm this phenomenon.

People don't really see what they think they see. The human eye does not really capture everything, and since the human mind is equipped through evolution to be pattern seeking, it fills in the blanks; in lots of cases with nonsense.

What you think you have seen, could be explained by science, but you prefer to take the easy route - goddidit.
